Luxury Bathroom Upgrades: Easier Than You Think

Do you daydream of home renovations? The luxury bathroom you’ve always wanted might be a more practical decision than you think! Giving your bathroom a high-efficiency makeover by replacing older, inefficient plumbing fixtures with a modern toilet, faucet, and showerhead can help your household save in more ways than one.

Faucets, toilets, and showerheads with the EPA’s designated WaterSense label don’t just boost water-saving performance — they boost your bathroom oasis experience, too.

Super Showers

Many homeowners are opting to swap out outdated tubs for luxury showers. Options to consider include creating larger showers, dual shower heads, body sprays, and even steam generators. Showers will take up less space — and use less water, too. The EPA calculates that a full bathtub requires about 70 gallons of water, while taking a five-minute shower uses 10 to 25 gallons.

For even greater guilt-free savings, install a low-flow shower head. Shower heads are measured by flow, the number of gallons they deliver per minute (gpm). Flow is affected by water pressure, measured in pounds per square inch (psi). The greater the pressure pushing water through pipes and shower heads, the greater the volume of water forced out.

A quality low-flow shower head will feel good at both high and low water pressures. Some have flow restrictors that can be reversed or removed to allow more water through on low-pressure lines, allowing you to achieve the right amount of water flow for your water pressure.

Upgraded Sink Space

While a double sink has been popular in the past, consider space versus another source of water. A single sink allows for more counter space, as well as storage space beneath the vanity. However, a double sink is ideal for a busy household that will utilize the extra sink bowl.

It might be time to update sink bowl materials, too. Glass and even stainless steel are catching up to porcelain in popularity when it comes to styles and shapes of bathroom sinks. The latest trend is vessel sinks, a modern twist on the original bowl and pitcher. These stylish sinks sit on top of a counter or cabinet. You’ll find them in glass, stainless steel, and other materials. Finally, don’t forget to update features like faucets and vanity handles to complete the look!

Turbocharge Your Toilet

You’ve got the shower. You’ve got the sink. That leaves another important bathroom feature — the toilet. If your toilet was installed prior to 1995, it’s consuming more than twice the amount of water of newer models. In fact, older models use roughly 3.5 gallons per flush, while newer models measure in around 1.28-gpf. A new toilet can save a family of four up to $2,000 on water bills over the course of the toilet’s lifespan. Talk about a smart upgrade!

If you’re going for all-out luxury, a high-tech toilet might cost you a pretty penny. Today’s tank offerings include compressed air for max flush power, LED lighted seats, hands free flush, deodorization systems, and dual flush offering two different water gallon options. The good news? A simple toilet swap won’t drain your wallet. And sometimes, all it takes is a newer, more modern model to complete your washroom renovation.
